Madison Rotary Distributes $43,000 in Grants

Annual distribution of grants to more than 40 charities is complete.

The Rotary Club of Madison completed its Annual Charitable Distribution with the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships to Madison High School graduates, the organization announced.

The distribution of funds actually began at the Annual Luncheon at Rod’s Steak House on May 10. In total, $43,000 was distributed to over 40 local charities and non-profits in various categories, according to a Madison Rotary news release.

The category of IMPROVING OUR COMMUNITY included Friends of the Madison Shade Trees, Madison Christmas Committee, Madison Community Pool, Madison Fire Department, Madison May Day, Madison Eagle Christmas Fund, St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, and The Thursday Morning Club/Madison Community House.

In the category of SUPPORTING EDUCATION & YOUTH GROUPS, recipients were The Adult School of the Chathams, Madison & Florham Park, American Legion Post #43; Clean Water for Kids, Friends of the Madison Public Library, Girl Scouts of Northern NJ, Madison Day Care Center, Madison Education Foundation, Madison High School Graduation Gala, Madison Junior School Athletic Organization, Madison Little League, Madison Music Association, Patriots Path Council—Boy Scouts of America, Team Eagle Foundation.

The category of SPONSORING THE ARTS included Baroque Orchestra of NJ, Bickford Theatre, Harmonium Choral Society, Madison Arts & Cultural Alliance, Museum of Early Trades & Crafts, Playwrights Theatre of NJ, and The Shakespeare Theatre of NJ.

In HELPING THOSE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS category, the following were awarded grants: Cheshire Home, Easter Seals NJ (Camp Merry Heart), EPOCH, Gift of Life NJ, Relay for Life of Madison.

COMMUNITY SERVICES included American Red Cross/Colonial Crossroads Chapter, Bridges Outreach, Chabad of Southeast Morris County, Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Morris & Sussex Counties, Family Promise of Morris County, Family Service of Morris County, Grace Counseling Center, Interfaith Food Pantry, Morris Area YMCA, Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Project Community Pride, and the Visiting Nurse Association of No.NJ.

At the special luncheon, Grants & Sponsorship Chair Tom Uhlman, referred to the event as the “happiest day of the year” for the Rotary Club of Madison.
