VALENTINE'S DAY CONCERT & DANCE PARTY at 2ND FRIDAY @ MONDO with BOSSA BRASIL & DJ Brandis

Come celebrate romance this Valentine’s Day from 7:30pm to 11:00pm with a special concert performance with the acclaimed BOSSA BRASIL jazz quartet in concert plus a romantic dance party with DJ Brandis at the unique 3rd floor Brownstone Theater at MONDO, located at 426 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit, NJ. After a recent well received performance at the renowned Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC this in-demand Brazilian jazz fusion music ensemble comes to the popular 2nd Friday @ Mondo bi-monthly concert series on Friday, February 14, 2014!

Born in Brasília, Brazil, BOSSA BRASIL founder Maurício de Souza is a jazz drummer who easily performs in both traditional jazz and Brazilian jazz styles. His good taste and finesse have allowed him to play in numerous settings with various accomplished musicians. Maurício studied with world renowned jazz drummer and master teacher, Joe Morello for eight years. He also had a year of private studies with distinguished all-round percussion teacher Glenn Weber. Aside from the inspiration of Mr. Morello, other influential performers include Buddy Rich, Airto Moreira, Dave Weckl, Roy Haynes, and Bill Stewart.

Since settling in Northern New Jersey in 2004, de Souza has been very active in the NY/NJ metropolitan area, performing at some of the finest jazz clubs not only as a side man but also as a band leader. In New York, de Souza has been heard at Smoke Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Garage Jazz Club, Cornelia St. Cafe, Lenox Lounge, Bar Next Door, Cachaça Jazz N' Samba Club, Cleopatra's Needle, Kitano Hotel, Jule's Bistro, Cutting Room, Via Brasil, Brazil Grill, Village Underground, New York Athletic Club, and Bubby's (Brooklyn) to name a few. Internationally, Maurício has performed in Brasilia, Brazil at well known jazz venues. Other performances include appearances as guest percussionist in numerous orchestral concerts with the Bergen Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Orchestra and the Orquestra Sinfônica do Teatro Nacional Cláudio Santoro de Brasilia (Brazil).

De Souza's group, BOSSA BRASIL performs the most sophisticated Brazilian music, including the exotic rhythms of the Baião and the Chorinho. The repertoire includes compositions from Brazil's most outstanding artists such as; Tom Jobim, Egberto Gismonti, Roberto Menescal, Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo, Victor Assis Brasil, Hermeto Pascoal, Baden Powell, Pixinguinha plus selections from their recent Bossa Brasil album, "Here. There".

After the concert enjoy a romantic dance party for all to the sounds of DJ Brandis. The evening includes a selection of desserts and beverages for your enjoyment. Reserve your tickets early for this special Valentine’s Day event!
