The Rebirth of Mayors Wellness Campaign

The mission of  the Mayors Wellness Campaign is to equip mayors and other key leaders with the tools to develop and implement active-living initiatives in their communities; the ultimate goal being to improve health and reduce the skyrocketing health care costs that come with the obesity problem in New Jersey. Madison Borough and its former Mayor Woody Kerkeslager were honored by the Mayors Wellness Campaign in 2007 as the first of two communities in the state to receive designation as a "New Jersey Healthy Town!" Madison Borough received the designation for its strong and active participation in the Mayors Wellness Campaign.

Madison Township received the "Healthy Town" designation for meeting the following:

  • A community must be a Mayors Wellness Campaign participant for one year or more,
  • A community must demonstrate sustainable programs in each of the Mayors Wellness Campaign categories: Youth in Motion, Seniors in Motion, Employers in Motion and Community in Motion,
  • A community must be willing to share its programs information with other communities.
Mayors Wellness Campaign is trying to enter a new stage of wellness for the community being  the leader in wellness as it has been in the past. There are new and interesting ways coming up in order to keep Madison ahead of the competition. The target will be to find new and fun ways to enhance the programs already in place. Youth in Motion, Seniors in Motion, Employers in Motion and Community in Motion are all great programs that will be enhanced and updated according to new wellness trends.

If anyone from the community would like to be a part of this new exciting process please join us at our next meeting which will be held on May 20th at 12:00 pm at Hollenbach Family Chiropractic, 250 Main Street, Madison.
