The Rebirth of Mayors Wellness Campaign
The mission of the Mayors Wellness Campaign is to equip mayors and other key leaders with the tools to develop and implement active-living initiatives in their communities; the ultimate goal being to improve health and reduce the skyrocketing health care costs that come with the obesity problem in New Jersey. Madison Borough and its former Mayor Woody Kerkeslager were honored by the Mayors Wellness Campaign in 2007 as the first of two communities in the state to receive designation as a "New Jersey Healthy Town!" Madison Borough received the designation for its strong and active participation in the Mayors Wellness Campaign.
Madison Township received the "Healthy Town" designation for meeting the following:
- A community must be a Mayors Wellness Campaign participant for one year or more,
- A community must demonstrate sustainable programs in each of the Mayors Wellness Campaign categories: Youth in Motion, Seniors in Motion, Employers in Motion and Community in Motion,
- A community must be willing to share its programs information with other communities.
If anyone from the community would like to be a part of this new exciting process please join us at our next meeting which will be held on May 20th at 12:00 pm at Hollenbach Family Chiropractic, 250 Main Street, Madison.
