Growing in the Garden Pre-school Program

Winter, spring, summer and fall -- come visit the gardens at Macculloch Hall!  “Growing in the Garden” is a year-round hands-on art program for 3 - 5 year olds and their caregivers uses natural resources found in Macculloch Hall Historical Museum’s garden.  The program includes a story, a walk in the garden, and an art project. This summer the program meets the first and third Tuesday each month with three session times available: 10:15-11:00am, 1:15 – 2 pm or 3:45 – 4:30 pm.

Hello Hydrangeas!

Children will “find out the facts” about the flowering shrub, hydrangea on Tuesday, July 15.   Activities include a discussion about soils and their role in how a plant grows.  Children will use bubbles to create their own images of pink and blue hydrangeas.

Green as a Grasshopper

Come listen to the summer sounds of grasshoppers on Tuesday, August 5th. Children will investigate grasshoppers and create their own antennae to wear home after spending time learning about the role of color and camouflage in the garden.

Hum like a Hummingbird

Where does the “hum” come from in a hummingbird?  On Tuesday, August 19th children will learn about the hummingbirds’ “hum” and the special diet these tiny birds need.  Children will make a hummingbird mobile so they can see hummingbirds year round.
