"Abraham Lincoln Remembered" Family Program

In honor of President’s Day, Macculloch Hall Historical Museum will hold the family program “Abraham Lincoln Remembered” on Monday, February 17, 2014. Families will trace the route of Lincoln’s famous whistle-stop train trip that brought him to Washington, D.C. in 1861 to take the presidential oath of office and begin his presidency.  Families will use “travel cards” to find out about significant events that took place during the trip, including the roles that famous 19th century American detective Allan Pinkerton and the first American female private eye Kate Warne, had in protecting the president-elect. The program concludes with an art activity where children can make and decorate a small book about Lincoln with images of and quotes from the beloved former president.

Three session times are available: a morning session from 10 am to 11:30 am, an early afternoon session from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, and a late afternoon session from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Activities are recommended for children 7 to 12 years old. Pre-registration is required.  Cost for the program includes craft materials and is $6 per child for Museum members and $8 per child for non-members. There is no charge for the accompanying adult.  To pre-register call (973) 538-2404 ext. 16 or email cwinslow@maccullochhall.org with name(s) and age(s) of children and a contact phone number and email address. For details on the education programs or any of the other programs offered by Macculloch Hall Historical Museum please visit maccullochhall.org.
