Lajewski, Habib Elected to Madison School Board

Active volunteers will join Board of Ed next year.

Unofficial election results Tuesday night showed Leslie Lajewski and Johanna Habib winning two seats on the Madison Board of Education.

They appeared on the ballot with Thomas Piskula. All three candidates were running for the first time.

Preliminary results showed the following vote counts:

- Thomas J. Piskula 1,463 votes, 28.20%

- Leslie A. Lajewski 1,958 votes, 37.74%

- Johanna C. Habib 1,754 votes, 33.81%

Write-In 13 0.25%

Total 5,188

Habib's professional background is in the supply chain management field, and has a bachelor's degree and MBA. She has been an active volunteer with the music program in the district.

Lajewski has been involved with PTO efforts and, before that, was a litigator and attorney in employment law, which she said could help the board when dealing with contracts, negotiations, litigation, downsizing and policies.

Piskula, a college faculty member, campaigned saying he wants to make Madison's wonderful schools even better, and that his experience with negotiations and managing portfolios would be an asset to the board.
