Week in Review: Something for Everybody in Mid-Summer

A busy week for artists, musicians and public servants in the Borough.

Madison welcomed mid-summer with a bevy of sporting and music events. There was also a healthy dose of government and police news this week, including a major break in a county-wide fencing operation in which the Borough of Madison Police Department played a role.

On Monday, we told you about six-year-old piano prodigy Henry Marinovic of Madison, who helped explain to reporter Kirk Petersen what improvising is. We also told you about the latest installment of the Downtown Concert Series at the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts, where The Imposters Band played last Friday night. We also told you about Madison's 11-year-old Little League baseball team defeating Denville, winning their third straight game and leaving them as the only undefeated team left in Pool B.

On Tuesday, we told you about approvals made by the Borough Council for road work and capital improvement funding. At the same meeting, an ordinance was passed that will pave the way for restaurants to serve liquor in privately-held outdoor space away from public sidewalks, and to share construction services with Chatham. We also told you about Madison resident Tracee Palmer's hobby of making soap from milk from the goats she keeps in her yard. We also told you about the Madison Junior Little League team's loss to Roxbury in the first of best-of-three championship games.

On Wednesday, we brought you the weekly Police Blotter, which detailed the arrests of two people in the Borough for driving under the influence. We also told you about the Madison 11-year-old Little Leaguers, who won their Tuesday game against Chester. We also brought you an audio-video slideshow on McCool's Ice Cream Parlour and how it's keeping Madison residents cool this summer.

On Thursday, we told you about two local librarians, Helene Corlett and Pauline Lang, who have both retired from the Madison Public Library after a combined 54 years of service. We also told you about the Madison Borough Police Department helping in a County-wide combined effort to arrest the leader of a local fencing operation in Dover.

On Friday, we brought you the Rose Guide, your source for all the local events in Madison this weekend. Saturday's events include a blood drive at the Madison Masonic Temple, and on Sunday you can help the Madison High School marching band raise money for the coming academic year by going to their car wash at the Hollenbach Family Chiropractic parking lot at 250 Main St. We also told you about the School Board meeting this week, which honored Alice Perlaw, lifelong Madison resident and 62-year librarian at Madison High School. The media center in which the School Board meets is named for Perlaw, who passed away in the Borough earlier this week. We also brought you a photo gallery from the latest Farmer's Market.
