Week in Review: Gearing Up for Community Outreach

As spring continues to progress, Madison volunteers in full bloom.

With the first ever Green Fair in Madison's history, and volunteers gearing up for May Day and the Madison High Five 5K Run/Walk, it was a busy week for philanthropy in the borough.

On Monday, we brought you more on the school budget, as councilmembers and the mayor got set to work with the Board of Education. We also brought you a story about Carmine Toto III's Villa Rose Wine School, and how it is both a hobby and a business. Finally, we told you about how how two Madison High School records were taken down at a recent track meet.

On Tuesday, we told you about some impassioned remarks regarding the school budget that were given at the Borough Council meeting. We also told you how, at the same meeting, it appeared that long-time Recreation Director Doug Smith would no longer be working for the borough in the near future. Late Tuesday night, we broke to you that the Planning Board had originally refused to second the motion for memorializing the site plan approval of a potential Walgreens at the corner of Main Street and Greenwood Avenue.

We also told you about how the Dodgers boys lacrosse team came up just short against rival Chatham and how the girls rode a quick stat to victory.

On Thursday, we told you about the effort those in the borough were giving to make Saturday's May Day event a successful one. We also told you about the Madison softball team's latest game. Finally, we brought you the police blotter, which brought you an item of how the report of a fire led to the arrest of a man for manufacturing marijuana with intention to distribute.
