Few landmarks evoke the mystique and heritage of Madison as , the imposing marble and granite monument erected by heiress and borough benefactor Geraldine Dodge in namesake memory of her son, who perished in a car accident at the age of 22.
Twice a month, the borough's governing body conducts its public business in the second-floor Council Chamber, an elegant space with a cathedral ceiling, twin chandeliers and checkerboard tile floor that seems better suited to a debutantes' cotillion than a council meeting.
But what even longtime meeting-goers may not realize is they are surrounded by a collection of art rivalling many museums in uniqueness and quality, courtesy of Mrs. Dodge.
