Storm Debris Welcomed at John Avenue Garage

Just bring ID and dump the debris with the Department of Public Works.

Madison offficials are asking residents to consider taking their big debris left over from the Halloween snowstorm down to the public works garage on John Avenue starting Tuesday.

DPW workers will accept the debris from residents or landscapers with proper identification to prove that it is coming from the yards and streets of Madison from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Cleanup has been “slow going,” Mayor Mary Anna Holden said at Monday night’s borough council meeting even with the help of labor from the Morris County Sheriff’s department and from two tree removal firms, Asplundh and Honor Tree, hired by the borough to help clear the limbs and waste.

Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, the DPW garage operation will once again be open and staffed by two DPW workers, the mayor said.

Meanwhile, newly elected Councilman Robert Landrigan who is the Madison coordinator for the Office of Emergency Management, has filed an application to receive $300,000 in snow storm remediation through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Morris County was declared a disaster area enabling municipalities to be reimbursed for extraordinary expenses.

The $300,000 is a preliminary estimate, Landrigan said, and it could go higher.
