Police Hiring Talk, Masonic Lodge Tour on Tap in Madison

A look at the week ahead in the Rose City.

Columbus Day: Madison schools have a single session for students and afternoon professional development for teachers on Monday for Columbus Day.

Borough Council: The Madison Borough Council meets at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartley Dodge Memorial. Jerry Mantone, the acting chief of the Madison Police Department who retired on Friday after 34 years, will be recognized, officials have said. The Borough Council president is expected to recommend the appointment of a new acting chief and the hiring of a new police officer.

Green Village Road School: A joint meeting of the Madison Board of Education and Mayor and Borough Council to discuss Green Village Road School is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday at Hartley Dodge Memorial. A notice says officials will adjourn immediately into closed session and no formal action is expected.

Freemasons: The Madison Masonic Lodge is hosting its Square and Compass Day Open House and Blood Drive on Saturday. Information on Masonry and tours of the historic lodge building, which has been named to the National Registry of Historic Places, also will be available.
