PSE&G Slates Workshop on Power Lines Project

Proposed upgrade would include power lines running along Madison-Chatham border.

Energy provider PSE&G has scheduled a public workshop on Monday, March 28 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the The Frelinghuysen Arboretum, 53 East Hanover Ave., Morristown, to discuss a proposal to upgrade electrical power lines through a swath of northern and central New Jersey.

The North Central Reliability Project would upgrade 35 miles of transmission lines and substations from existing 138,000-volt power to 230,000-volt power, including a portion along the Madison-Chatham border.

The provider said experts will be available on a one-on-one basis at the workshop, one of four being being held in the region.

The power company must obtain approval from the New Jersey Board of Utilities for the upgrade, which it says is necessary to meet current and future electricity demands and reduce transmission system congestion in the region.
