Plenty of Summer Rec Programs in Madison

Updated with additional "Once Upon a Mattress" audition date.

For Summer 2012, the Madison Recreation Department is offering or co-sponsoring the following programs:

Stick With It Field Hockey Clinic (Grades 3-8 as of 6/2012)

Run by Madison High School coaches Jan Arthur and Ann Marie Davies, this camp will cover all the basic skills and will cater to all experience levels. Two sessions will be held at Ted Monica Field at :

• Session 1: June 4 to June 7
• Session 2: June 10 to June 13

After a very successful first year, will again manage the summer musical. Casting for "Once Upon a Mattress" and an additional audition date has been added. Madison residents age 14 to 21 can audition on Thursday, May 31, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the offices of Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, , 28 Walnut Street.

The company also is looking for students who are interested in playing in the orchestra (rehearsals begin July 9), and people of all ages for building/painting scenery, making costumes or props for one day or the whole project. The play will be performed at Thursday, July 26, through Saturday, July 28. Thursday and Friday shows are at 7:30 p.m., and a Saturday matinee is at 2 p.m.

Junior Theatre (Entering Grades 6-8)

The junior show will be run by Madison volunteers with supervision and direction from Playwrights Theater. Rehearsals will be approximately four days a week, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. beginning in late June . Production dates will be Aug. 10 and 11. More information to come.

Millburn Par 3 Golf Memberships

Due to a cooperative agreement, Madison residents are invited to purchase memberships to the Millburn Municipal Par 3 Golf Course. "Unlimited” and “limited” memberships are available. Players must be 18 years of age or older to purchase a membership. The course is located at 303 White Oak Ridge Road in Millburn. Registration is available online at http://register.communitypass.net/millburn. Bring your email receipt and driver's license to the course and an ID badge will be issued to you. During the season, you will be required to bring a photo to the course, and it will be scanned onto your ID badge. Please call the course at 973-379-4156 with any questions.
