'Cake Boss' Visit, Ink Thefts Arrest Top Madison News

Madison residents were among the many attendees who lined Main Street in downtown Chatham on Wednesday morning for the annual Fourth of July parade. This gallery of 130 photos documented the event.

St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center on Woodland Road played host to an episode of "Cake Boss," with members of the show's cast and crew filming scenes for an episode celebrating 20 million adoptions facilitated by Petfinder, an online database of animals who need homes.

Next school year, Madison seventh-graders will learn about robots, freshmen will take physics instead of biology, and second-, third- and sixth-graders will be taking the MAP standardized test on computers instead of the pencil-and-paper Terranovas, according to a school district presentation.

A Brooklyn man charged with shoplifting seven laser printer toner cartridges from the on June 21 was arrested in New Hampshire after being out on bail on the Madison charges for about a week. He allegedly was part of an organized retail crime ring that stole more than $100,000 in printer ink from Staples stores in New Jersey and also hit stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire, authorities said.

Madison High School grad Andrew Wells, who won two championships on Madison's golf team and is destined for the University of Virginia in the fall, was presented with the New Jersey section of the PGA's scholar athlete award.
