Police Officer Swearing-In, Tom Brokaw Lecture on Tap in Madison

A look at the week ahead in the Rose City.

Borough Council: Madison Mayor Bob Conley is expected to deliver the oath of office to a probationary police officer at Monday's Borough Council meeting, according to the meeting agenda. A new proposed law for regulating the hours of construction and demolition also is on the agenda for discussion and introduction.

Candidates Forum: The four Madison Borough Council candidates are scheduled to participate in a forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Madison Community House, with candidates fielding written and oral questions submitted by audience members.

Restaurant Week: Madison Restaurant Week 2012 runs through Sunday. Eleven participating restaurants are offering specials this week.

Farmer's Market: The last Madison Farmers Market of the season is scheduled from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday on Green Village Road in front of the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts.

Tom Brokaw Lecture: Award-winning veteran broadcaster Tom Brokaw will kick off the 2012-13 Drew Forum lecture series at 8 p.m. Thursday at Drew University with an insider’s view of pressing current events at home and abroad.

WAMFEST: Fairleigh Dickinson University’s WAMFEST (The Words and Music Festival) .

The lineup includes Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jonathan Demme (director of "Silence of the Lambs" and "Philadelphia"), three-time U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, celebrated graphic historian Chip Kidd, the talented and influential musicians Donald Harrison Jr., Ben Allison, Steve Slagle, and Dave Stryker, and other performers.

Halloween Hoopla: The Madison Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 2012 “Halloween Hoopla” on Saturday starting at 12:15 p.m. Children and their parents are invited to attend a Halloween costume parade followed by a magic show and trick-or-treating in the downtown business area.
