Helipad Hearing, Green Ave. Paving, Shakespeare Theatre This Week

Memorial Day: Madison will observe Memorial Day with ceremonies beginning at 9 a.m. at James Park. A parade from Condurso Way to Hartley Dodge Memorial starts at 9:30 a.m. A solemn remembrance ceremony at Borough Hall is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Helipad Hearing: An application to construct a helipad at 1 Jets Drive in Florham Park was adjourned earlier this month until the Florham Park Planning Board's Thursday meeting. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Florham Park Municipal Building, 111 Ridgedale Ave. Hundreds of neighbors in Madison are petitioning to stop the project.

Green Ave. Paving: A hearing and vote on an ordinance appropriating $630,000 from Madison's general capital improvement fund for the reconstruction of Green Avenue from Woodland to Shunpike is scheduled for the 8 p.m. Wednesday Borough Council meeting at Hartley Dodge Memorial. Frustrated residents previously decried the state of the road and submitted a petition to have it fixed.

Shakespeare Theatre: The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will launch its 51st season with J.M. Synge’s classic "The Playboy of the Western World."   Performances begin Wednesday and continue through June 23 at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, 36 Madison Ave., at Lancaster Road, in Madison.

Board of Education: Madison's school board is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Madison High School library.

Garage Sale: Come shop for a good cause with something for everyone. As part of the Madison High School Day of Service, Interact is holding a garage sale in the MHS cafeteria to benefit Brooke Healey starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Craftsman of the Year: The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts will honor local local historic preservationist Janet Foster as the 2013 Craftsman of the Year at a lecture and reception 2 p.m. Sunday at the museum. Foster will lecture on "Building Meaning: Designing From the Past, Engineering for the Future."

'Life of Pi': A free showing of the film is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Madison Public Library.
