Primary Election, Farmers Market This Week

Also on tap: the Madison Studio Tour and the Revolutionary Ramble Bicycle Tour.

Primary Election Day: Polls are open for New Jersey primaries from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, when Democrats and Republicans will decide their parties' nominees for the general election in November.

With two Borough Council seats up for grabs, a pair of Democrats—Jeffrey Gertler and Maureen Byrne—.

Four of the candidates of the five candidates are running in pairs. Incumbent Councilman Robert Catalanello is running with Board of Education Vice President Pat Rowe.

Downtown Development Commission Chair Eric Range and Diane Driscoll, a member of Madison’s Zoning Board of Adjustment and a commissioner for Madison’s Housing Authority, also are running as a team.

Carmen Pico, who ran in the last election, also is seeking the GOP nomination. He has been endorsed by former Councilman Sam Cerciello, who has announced he plans to file a petition to appear on the November ballot as an independent candidate for Borough Council.

Madison Farmers Market Opens: The farmers market will be held every Thursday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in front of the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts  on the corner of Main Street and Green Village Road, through Oct. 17. "Come get your kettle korn and fresh veggies!"

District Art Show Opening Reception: Over 400 pieces of student art work will be featured 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at The College of Saint Elizabeth Annunciation Center. Opening reception is scheduled to 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Eighth Annual Student Art Show features the work of students in grades K-12.

Revolutionary Ramble Bicycle Tour: Riders will tour one of the nation's most scenic and historic areas on 12-, 25-, 35-, 50-, 65- or 100-mile bicycle routes, starting on Drew University campus during the fifth annual ride Sunday morning. The event already has sold out.

Madison Artists Tour: The Madison Arts and Cultural Alliance will host the “Madison Artists Tour” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at a variety of venues in Madison. The annual event, developed by MACA to introduce and promote visual artists in the borough, will feature the participating artists’ works in exclusive and unique “pop-up galleries” throughout the borough, including a realty office, shops, and the Hartley Dodge Memorial municipal building. Maps that show the site for each artist’s work are available for $5.
