Farmers Market Gets A T-Shirt You Can Tie-Dye

The Madison Downtown Development Corp (DDC) has created Farmer's Market T-shirts, one of which buyers can tie dye at a local retailer.

As the producer of the Madison Farmers Market, the Downtown Development Corp. takes a great deal of pride in the success of the event that thrives each week on Waverly Place.

Every Thursday afternoon it sets up its own table across from some of the leading produce vendors in the state and offers its own way of marketing the concise blend of vendors at the outdoor market.

Two weeks ago, the DDC gave out New Year’s hats and noisemakers and gave away sno-cones to celebrate “New Year’s in August.” Last week, the organization gave away red tomato-shaped squeezable stress balls. This week, the DDC was selling a T-shirt to promote the Farmers Market that features three symbols: a peace sign, a red heart, and the Farmers Market logo.

“We we sitting in a meeting and we kept saying ‘Peace, Love and Veggies,’ ‘Peace, Love and Veggies’ and said that it would make such a cool shirt,” said Laura Cole, business administrator for the DDC.

There are two flavors of the shirt — a white version and a beige, or creme, version.

“The creme ones are just to make it all natural and cool,” Cole said.

The white versions have a higher purpose. These are sold to use for tie dying, which can be done by , a novelty retailer on Main Street.

On August 25, the DDC will be running a campaign with Doodlebugz with the Peace, Love Farmers Market T-shirts: $28 buys a white T-shirt, a 1-1/2 hour session at Doodgelbugz Studio, including instructions and all dye materials.

Doodlebugz owner Jacquie Dinsmore said that parents may leave their children age seven and older at the studio to tie-dye.

The DDC has made effort to appeal to families, and especially children this year through the Farmers Market.

Thursday evening featured Madison's first-ever evening movie set upon the front lawn of the Hartley Dodge Memorial Building.

The movie offered?

True to the Farmers Market theme, Disney's "James and the Giant Peach."
