Candlelight Vigil Tonight for Injured Madison Man

First Methodist Church will hold service from 7 to 8 p.m.

The First Baptist Church of Madison will hold a vigil for Marcus Banks, who remains at Morristown Memorial Hospital with severe injuries sustained over the weekend.

The church's pastor, Rev. Dr. Charles H. Smith said the service will be by candle light and inside the church on Wednesday night, beginning at 7 p.m. The service is expected to last one hour.

Smith was with Roscoe Banks, Marcus' father, at the side of the injured Madison man Tuesday at the hospital.

Smith said he was contacted by parishioners who are friends of the family to help with prayers for Banks, with those parishioners praying for a miracle from God.

"At this point, it's in God's hands," Smith said.

It is not yet clear the extent of Marcus Banks' injuries or what caused them.

However, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday its investigation remains ongoing into an alleged altercation that took place over the weekend on Kinney Street.

According to Capt. Jeffrey Paul, spokesman for Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, along with the Madison Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Section, is currently investigating the alleged altercation.

On Monday, the Madison Police Department and the prosecutor's office were on the scene at 17 Kinney St., investigating the residence throughout the day.

Police tape surrounded the property of the white home that has a blue Ford Mustang parked in the driveway. Officers had been running the license plates of vehicles driving through the area earlier on Monday.

Numerous residents in the area either declined comment on the situation or told Madison Patch they were not at home when any incident may have taken place.

Madison Police Chief John Trevena said he could not comment on the investigation and referred questions to the prosecutor's office.
