Bayley Ellard Fields, Summer Reading, No Helipad Hearing This Week

NY Jets Helipad: A hearing on an application to build a helipad at 1 Jets Drive in Florham Park has been pushed back again. A Florham Park Planning Board meeting scheduled for Monday was canceled because not enough members will be there, according to a notice on the borough website.

Borough Council: Madison's governing body is scheduled to meet at 8 p.m. Monday at Hartley Dodge Memorial. A hearing and vote on a proposal to use $250,000 from the Open Space Trust Fund for improvements at the borough's Bayley Ellard fields, including upgrading fencing around and building a parking lot over contaminated areas, is on the agenda. Board of Education: The Madison school board is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Summer Reading: The Madison Public Library, 39 Keep Street, will kick off the Summer Reading Club Program on Monday. A full day of fun is planned at the library beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a musical performance geared towards children 5 and younger by guitar duo "Sister Sing, Sister String.”

Program registration and courtyard activities will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library courtyard will be abuzz with activities including craft tables, balloon artists, face painting, sidewalk chalk, play doh and more. At 7 p.m., magician Joe Fischer will begin an evening of magic, comedy, and entertainment.

The Summer Reading Club is sponsored by the Friends of the Madison Public Library, and provides children with encouragement to track what they read while school is out, while giving them a host of activities to look forward to all summer long. Schedules are available online at www.madisonnjlibrary.org or in the library Children’s Room.  Activity registration and drop-in programs are offered on a first come, first served basis. To register and participate in any of the programs, children or their parents or care providers must have a Madison Public Library card. Gerald Stern: Drew University is hosting A Celebration of Gerald Stern at 1 p.m. Thursday. The free event includes an interview, symposium and reading with the university's distinguished poet-in-residence.
