Back-to-School for Madison Students

Madison Patch was jam packed with information for the beginning of the 2010-11 school year.

The Madison Public Schools welcomed back students this week, and Madison Patch was there every step of the way. A special thanks to Catherine Turvey, Daniela Cleary, and the Purce family for helping to show the beginning of the year from an angle not always viewed by others.

On Monday, we helped get you acclimated to the new school year by giving you 10 things you should be aware of as the year progresses. We also gave you an inside look at departing Superintendent Dr. Richard Noonan, who will be elsewhere for the first time in six years. We also brought you a gallery from the latest Downtown Concert Series, the first which was inside, though plenty of residents still lined the lawn in chairs.

On Tuesday, we welcomed back students to school by giving them guides, written by current and former students, on how to best enjoy their first and last years at Madison High School. We also brought you an inside look at Madison family as its four children got ready for the first day of school. We also told you how the borough had released the three-year earnings data of its employees on its Web site, and we broke down that information for you. Finally, we previewed the Dodgers field hockey season as the team attempts to defend its state crown.

On Wednesday, we told you about new school business administrator Gary Lane and the challenges he sees for the district this year. We also told you about how two people were arrested for possession of ecstacy after a call from Drew Public Safety. Finally, we previewed the Dodgers boys soccer season, as they hope to repeat as Morris County Tournament champions.

On Thursday, we told you about the Rotary Family Festival that was running from Thursday through Sunday. We also told you about how police found a missing teen downtown after a phone call was placed by a resident. searching for a 16-year-old female runaway. We also previewed the Dodgers girls soccer season, which was hoping to build off of last year's success.

On Friday, we previewed the Dodgers football season, telling you how expectations placed by the team itself were high.
