Arts, Music, and Championship Sports This Weekend

A revival of a Tony Award winning Broadway play is running at the Shakespeare Theatre this weekend.

Many are familiar with James Goldman's "The Lion in Winter" from the Academy Award winning film version, released in 1968, starring such screen legends as Katharine Hepburn, Peter O'Toole and Anthony Hopkins. But like many films, this story originated as a Tony Award winning Broadway play.

For fans of the film who never had the chance to see the original production or the 1999 revival, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will be offering an opportunity to see the work in its original form under the direction of Paul Mullins from Oct. 20 until Nov. 14.

There are four chances to catch the play this weekend: Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m, and Sunday at 2 and 7:30 p.m.

Madison residents will have more to do this weekend besides catch a show, though, with plenty of music, championship field hockey and volleyball games, and pirate night at the YMCA.
