Where Do You Get Your Sports Equipment?

This week's Readers' Choice poll features sports shops in Madison and Chatham.

When it's time to get outfitted for the big game, where do you turn?

This week, our Readers' Choice column asks the residents of Madison and Chatham to tell us where the best place for sports supplies is:

What makes your favorite sports shop the best to you? Is it the variety of their stock, the quirky accessories, the prices?

Vote in our poll below, and tell us in the comments what makes your favorite store so special. Voting is open until Friday at 9 a.m. We will announce the winner at noon Friday.

Editor's note: Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be selected on a point system based on poll votes and directory ratings. If there is a tie, a winner will be determined by the amount of positive comments posted on this article and positive reviews received on its directory listing. For running shoes and clothes and triathlon gear, you can't beat Starting Line Sports. The service is great, and there are sales from time to time. Also, coaching is available to improve at the sports with a weekly group run year round. You get your money's worth and more.

First of all, chatham sports shop is NEVER OPEN and NEITHER is Alfred's. They both do not have great selection, nor are they in a good location. The parking is unbearable at both the stores, so cross them off the list. Blue Ridge should not even be on this list because although they have great hours, they only have stuff for rock climbing, camping and outdoors apparel. Unless all you do is lax it up all day, your not going to go to lacrosse unlimited for sports equipment. Starting Line Sports would be the best for sports equipment because it has great hours, it is not in the busy heart of downtown Madison, so the parking is very easy to come by. SLS has a variety of sports equipmement while having the equipment that is rarely found in town. To be honest, I would never go to any of these stores.... yeah i get i shop downtown local yadadada but to get anything you really needed for equipment, you would just go to Sport's Authority or Dick's Sporting Goods.

Without a doubt, Chatham Sports. It's local, it's Chatham and Terry knows the business better than anyone you can find at a mall or on the highway. Selection is great and the service is not just knowledgable, but patient and friendly. I'm old enough to remember "Morty's" which holds fond memories. Chatham Sports is the modern incarnation of "Morty's" only better.
