Show Your Passion for Thai

Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior of this Main Street restaurant.

Neatly tucked between the Chatham Post Office and the Chase Bank on the south side of Main Street lies a little thai place well worth looking—and walking—into.

Thai Passion at 225 Main St. has developed a loyal following since they opened in June 2010. The dining room is rarely full, which means you can almost always get a seat near the front window looking over at the Library of the Chathams. Besides the usual assortment of drinks, they also have hot teas and Thai iced tea.

The selection of appetizers, entrées and desserts is subject to change, but most standard dishes, such as Pad Thai, Tom Yum soup and Red or Green Curry, are reliable and delicious options.

Green curry, in my opinion, is a highly underrated Thai option, and it is particularly well done at Thai Passion. The spicy-sweet sauce of coconut milk and green curry paste drenches the meat (choice of tofu or vegetables, chicken, shrimp, beef or mixed seafood) and vegetables, and mixed with rice, makes for a delicious option.

It's a spicy dish, even at its mildest, so be prepared to have your lips swell up and swallow water by the glass. Luckily, the staff is not stingy with either the water or the rice (which helps balance the out the spice). Curries made with tofu or vegetables are $11.95; chicken, $12.95; beef, $13.95; shrimp, $17.95; and mixed seafood, $22.95.

The specialty dessert on the menu right now is the carmelized crêpe soufflé ($7.95). It's not as sweet of an option as the warm chocolate melting cake ($7.95) or the sweet sticky rice with mango ($7), but the caramel and passion fruit sauce which comes on the side turn this savory option into a delectable way to end the meal.

Thai Passion is open for lunch Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch specials available. They remain open until 10 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m., Sundays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Monday.

I absolutely LOVE Thai Passion! Their Panang Chicken Curry is to die for. I could live on it. The people who work there are so nice, they remember your name AND what you usually order. I very, very highly recommend Thai Passion!
