Madison Farmers Market Back for 20th Season

Drew University among sponsors, new vendors will bring goat's milk soap, kielbasa.

This Thursday will mark the return of Madison's Farmers Market, taking the block of Waverly Place from Main Street to Kings Road from 2 - 7 p.m.

The Market, organized by the Madison Downtown Development Commission, is sponsored this year by , and . Drew's sponsorship is new this year, and Drew's Dean of Campus Life Sarah Wauldron feels that it is a good fit for the school.

"The Farmers Market supports Drew's  efforts towards sustainability and community building," said Wauldron.

Along with new sponsors, this year's market will feature several new vendors, including The Secret Garden, Madison's own Goat's Milk Soap provider and Krakus Deli, which will sell Polish specialties such as kielbasa and pierogies. They will join local farmers who bring fresh produce to the market as well as several special events.

"We have a plan for every single week," said Farmers Market Chair Maureen Byrne.

This week, the Downtown Development Commission will have Shop Madison totes and there will be an official ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Some upcoming highlights include a barbeque cooking demonstration by Whole Foods on June 30; create-your-own-smoothie on July 14 and and a tomato contest (bring your own and compete with the farmers at the market) on August 11.

The Madison Farmers Market will run from  2 - 7 p.m. Thursdays on Waverly Place from June 23 through September 29.
