Fratelli's Deli a New Name for Main Street Mainstay

The former Duffy's still a reliable downtown eatery.

If Fratelli's Deli at 42 Main Street looks familiar, there's good reason. The downtown storefront formerly occupied by Duffy's is under new ownership, but there's been little obvious change in the moderately-priced, handmade hot and cold favorites that made the eatery a popular favorite for everyone from the breakfast working crowd to college students making a foray into the downtown district for lunch. It's shaded sidewalk tables make it a prime location for people-watching in the Rose City.

Patch and friend stopped in for a quick bite recently, and were immediately overwhelmed by the selection: Specialty subs or wraps? Vegetable sandwiches or Sloppy Joes? Grilled entrees or paninis--or even a salad? Decisions, decisions.

Patch opted for roast beef on rye with mustard, while our dining companion shrewdly chose a tuna salad sandwich--a true acid test for any quality deli. An order of fries completed our modest munch.

There's something for every palate at Fratelli's, including an array of Italian subs. For example, The Killer features prosciutto, capicola, sopressata, sharp provolone, mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes and arugula with olive oil, pepper and a touch of balsamic, $8.95. (Also available as a wrap).

If you're dining on the light side try the Greek salad, with feta cheese, Calamata olives, tomato, cucumber and onion, $5.95.

Our lunch didn't disappoint. Patch's companion pronounced the tuna salad the best he'd tasted, not too heavy on the mayo and with a minimum of garnishments. The fries were a pleasant addition, cooked to crispy perfection but not dried out, and with just a patina of oil.
