Farmers Market Returns to Green Village Road

Umbrellas pop on first day of Madison's weekly outdoor market.

Shoppers continued checking out the fresh New Jersey produce at the Madison Farmers Market on Thursday afternoon even after it started raining a few hours into the first market of the year.

The market is open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays until Oct. 17, and will be located on Green Village Road in front of the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts for the entire run, market coordinator Barbara Hughes said.

In previous years, it was located on Waverly Place and, last year, split between Waverly Place the first half and then Green Village Road the second half.

On Thursday, Madison Pharmacy gave away purple butterfly glimmer tattoos while accepting donations for Brooke Healey, a 4-year-old girl who is the daughter of a Madison teacher and is battling an inoperable brain tumor.

More than 20 downtown businesses are offering deals during market hours, including free admission at the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts. Maps showing where to find the deals are available at the market, which is presented by the Downtown Development Commission.
