Drew University, Community College Sign Admissions Agreement

Raritan Valley graduates may come to Madison campus with junior standing.

Raritan Valley Community College students who graduate with with an associate's degree and a high enough GPA may enter Drew University in Madison with junior standing under a new "Dual Admissions Agreement" signed by the schools this week.

“The new agreement with Drew University is a wonderful opportunity for RVCC students to continue their education close to home at one of the most highly regarded liberal arts universities in the country,” RVCC Interim President James B. Ventantonio said in a news release. “This unique agreement also offers RVCC students the opportunity to take a Drew University course at the RVCC tuition rate before transferring, and to qualify for special transfer scholarships to Drew.”

Drew University President Vivian A. Bull said she wished an agreement like it was in place when she attended a community college in Michigan.

“This is an innovative public-private partnership that will provide a valuable new pathway for talented area students to attain a college degree,” Bull said. “As a student at Gogebic Community College, Michigan, I would have been delighted and relieved to have had an articulation agreement to support completing my degree at a top-tier university like Drew.”

Under the agreement, RVCC students may transfer up to 80 credits to Drew, but must submit their “Dual Admissions Intent” form to Drew before they have completed 30 credits at RVCC.

At the same time, students who apply to Drew but are not able to attend for financial reasons or a lack of prerequisites may be referred to RVCC so they can attend college there and then transfer to Drew.

Drew’s undergraduate tuition is nearly $43,000 per year, plus approximately $11,9000 for room and board, while tuition at RVCC is $125 per credit, according to the Star-Ledger.
