VIDEO: 'Gesualdo' Takes Center Stage at Festival

Weeklong musical showcase at the College of St. Elizabeth concludes Sunday.

The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey's weeklong musical celebration continued Saturday with a night of original contemporary compositions with a dark flavor.

Musical Director Robert W. Butts and his collaborators, author Jewel Seehaus-Fisher and composers Anthony Bevilacqua and Andrew Pecota, who is also featured on bassoon, performed Bevilacqua's "Quintet," Butts' "Chansons de la Mer," Pecota's "An Evil Story a la Poe" and "Suite from "Tell-Tale Heart."

Seehaus-Fisher's play "Gesualdo" was scored by Butts. The play is based on the life of an actual composer who was tormented because he murdered his cheating first wife, but now finds himself in an arranged marriage.

The weeklong music festival concludes Sunday at the College of Saint Elizabeth's Dolan Hall with a gala presentation of the opera, "Don Giovanni" at 3 p.m.
