Bits & Bytes - Art Exhibit at Madison Public Library

"Bits & Bytes," an exhibit of work by artists Gail Mardfin and Hilary Klimek, will be held at the Madison Public Library April 13th through April 30th.  Gail Mardfin was the head of the art department at the Purnell School in Pottersville for nearly 20 years, teaching a myriad of art mediums.  She is the founder of PLP Graphic Design Services, and now divides her creative time between "pushing paint and pushing pixels." She is the co-founder of the ARTsee Open Studio Tour in Bernardsville and Basking Ridge (artseetour.com).  Ms. Mardfin's work is the "BITS" in the exhibit.   She explained that although she works in many mediums, "this show is all about my mixed media pieces.  I LOVE pushing little bits of paper and scraps of found objects around until they magically seem to "click" into place for me."  Most of her collages include some kind of words or text that help to remind you to See the Good (her motto).

Hilary Klimek is a freelance photographer whose work has been utilized by numerous media sources both in print and online. She was awarded the first ever Bernards Township Mayor's Arts Award in 2011 for her support of the arts throughout the community.  This past year Ms. Klimek was an award winner in a photographic competition hosted by Assemblyman Jon Bramnick to highlight the beauty and dynamism of New Jersey.   Her work represents the "BYTES" in "BITS & BYTES," referring to all of the tiny pieces of technology that open the doors to her creativity and that assist in her photographic expression.   The majority of her work in the show was created with her iPhone and its many photographic apps.  The convenience of being able to not only shoot photos, but also to edit them with her phone was exciting after years of using a "workhouse of a cell phone" that did nothing but make and receive calls.  With her new phone, a whole new are of art was born.
