Baroque Orchestra's Music Festival Opens Sunday

Celil Refik Kaya, a classical guitarist, will premiere "Guitar Rhapsody," a new work by well-known jazz and classical composer Derwyn Holder on Sunday at the opening concert for the annual Summer Music Festival of The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey.

The Fresh Breezes Orchestra Concert begins at 3 p.m. in Dolan Hall, College of Saint Elizabeth, 2 Convent Road, Morristown, and will feature John Burkhalter performing "Recorder Concerto" and some of the young winners of the Pearl & Julius Young Rising Stars Competition, held each year in March to encourage classical instrumentalists between the ages of 16 and 22.

The concert will be preceded by the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s Next Stage Ensemble's performance of Beaumarchais's play, and inspiration for the Mozart opera, "The Marriage of Figaro." The play will be performed at 12:30 p.m. on the lawn at Annunciation Center prior to the concert.

Calderone Chamber Music Night is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Grace Church.

Cabaret, a night of theater entertainment presented cabaret style, with performances of "Cakes and Ale" and "Mark Twain and the General," is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.

The Magic Flute, an opera by Mozart, is scheduled to be performed in English at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Dolan Hall, College of Saint Elizabeth.
