Shakespeare Theater Picnic Series Kicks Off at F.M. Kirby Theatre

The series is free and features abridged versions of classic Greek theater.

Supporting young actors is as easy as having a picnic on the grass on a summer afternoon.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is hosting a free Picnic Series featuring the talents of Next Stage Ensemble, the theater's touring company of early-career actors, starting Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. on the F.M. Kirby Theatre lawn.

The theater is located at the Drew University campus at 36 Madison Avenue (at Lancaster Road) in Madison. Guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs, blankets and food to watch abridged classics in the forest-like environment of the surrounding campus.

The series features a one-hour production of "The Libation Bearers," part two of the trilogy "Oresteia" by Aeschylus. The Greek tragedy follows the plight of the Argos family that strives to avenge the death of their patriarch.
