Removal of 'Under God' Banner Sparks Talk on Airwaves

Dodger Nation sign now on sub shop.

Discussion about Madison's decision to display and then remove an unofficial sports fan group's banner that included the phrase "One Nation Under God" continued Thursday as the issue was brought up on TV (News 12) radio (NJ 101.5), and online (NJ.com).

Borough employees displayed it on an NJ Transit train trestle, and then took it down less than two days later after officials received complaints about it.

Madison checked with NJ Transit to see what guidelines were in place for the content of banners displayed on bridges, and then learned Madison didn't have the necessary permits to display any banners on NJ Transit train trestles in the first place.

That led to all other banners being taken down from the bridges in Madison and brought an end to a banner program many borough organizations used to advertise their events.

Meanwhile, the Dodger Nation banner still can be seen when driving through Madison. It found a home on Main Street Subs. The shop owner there played for the team decades ago and wanted to show his support for the team, News 12 reported.
