Madison-Florham Park Post Marks Veterans Day

'Without them, we'd be living in a much different world,' mayor says.

Dozens of people gathered Monday at Condurso Park in Madison for an annual Veterans Day ceremony conducted by Frank Patterson American Legion Post 43, which serves Madison, Florham Park and other towns.

After the 11 a.m. ceremony, officials dedicated a memorial at the Madison Recreation Complex honoring veterans, police officers, firefighters and EMTs whose passion was coaching and mentoring the youth of the Rose City.

Post Commander Robert Holtz said it's important for people to recognize veterans' service to their country.

"The easiest way is to simply say 'Thank you,'" Holtz said.

Madison Mayor Bob Conley said veterans give residents their freedoms.

"Without them, we'd be living in a much different world," he said. "Thank you. We are forever grateful."

Fran Derin, president of the Morris County Ladies Auxiliary; Marybeth Valentino, president of the Post 43 Ladies Auxiliary; Robert Holtz, post commander; Post 43 member Brian Mulligan; Madison Mayor Bob Conley; Florham Park Councilman Charles Germershausen; and post historian Bruce Bergmann spoke during the ceremony.
