Legendary Madison Football Coach Leads Memorial Day Parade

Ted Monica will be the Grand Marshal for Monday's parade, which steps off at 9:30 a.m.

Korean War veteran and famous Madison High football coach Ted Monica will lead Monday's Memorial Day parade down Main Street.

The festivities begin with a ceremony at James Park's World War II and Korean War memorials at 9 a.m. The American Legion Post 43 of Madison and Florham Park will participate in the ceremony. The American Legion Ladies will lay a wreath at Upper James Park across from Grace Church.

There will then  be a ceremony at Lower James Park by the statue at 9:15 a.m.

The parade, which will feature a memorial float made by the Madison High School's Wood Shop and music by the Madison High band, will step off at Condurso Way at 9:30 a.m. Monica, who led the Dodgers to nine sectional football championships in the 1970s, will be the parade's Grand Marshal.

The parade will continue down Main Street to Prospect Avenue and then along Kings Road to the Hartley Dodge Memorial Building for a ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

The Madison municipal website is running a list of borough residents and their family members who have died while serving their country.
