She began packing an extra peanut butter and jelly sandwich to give out to a homeless person on her way to work. Then she decided to make her personal project even bigger.
Charney is the founder of Food for Thought, a card company that donates the equivalent of one PB&J sandwich with every purchase to organizations dedicated to helping the hungry.
Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Madison, New Jersey recently partnered up with Charney and her organization, bolstering the creation of a new card that states "We're Moving," which proved a perfect fit for real estate purposes.
Coldwell Banker donated its purchase -- the equivalent to 500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches -- to Interfaith Food Pantry in Morristown.
“We are always amazed with the creative ways in which people in our community reach out to help one another. We’re so appreciative of Connie Charney’s thoughtfulness and Coldwell Banker’s participation in this fundraiser," said Carolyn Lake, a spokeswoman for the food pantry. "During the first 4 months of 2014, we distributed nearly 288,000 pounds of food and served more than 4,800 people. It is efforts like these, large and small, that enable us to assist our many neighbors in need, and distribute more than a ton of food per day.”
