'Dangerous' Conditions Expected as Heavy Snow Turns to Ice

Snow, sleet, freezing rain could cause treacherous travel conditions and power outages.

Overnight snow will turn to sleet and freezing rain causing "dangerous" travel conditions Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the entire area until 6 p.m. Wednesday with 3 to 8 inches of snow and up to a half-inch of ice expected.

The heavy snow and ice could down power lines and tree limbs. Utility companies PSE&G and JCP&L said they are prepared for the storm and will bring in additional crews if necessary.

“JCP&L has activated storm response plans, including staffing additional dispatchers and analysts at regional dispatch offices, and making arrangements to bring in additional line, substation and forestry personnel, as required, based on the severity of the weather,” according to a company statement released Tuesday.

To report downed wires or power outages in the PSE&G coverage area, call 1-800-436-PSEG. PSE&G customers can also track outages, follow the utility company on Twitter or register to receive text and email alerts.

JCP&L customers without power should call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) and refer to the utility company's outage map.
