A WWII Vet, Madison Woman to Speak at Library

Morris County's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade also on tap this week.

Recognize a Madison resident who was one of the women who joined the U.S. Navy during World War II in a celebration Monday at the Madison Library, and start the St. Patrick's Day festivities early with the annual Morris County parade in Morristown on Saturday.

Here's a look at what else is happening:

Monday—The Madison branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will honor the WAVES, a group of women who joined the all-female division of the U.S. Navy during World War II, at the at 2 p.m. Nancy Castellano, a resident of Madison, was one of the WAVES and has written a book about her experience that will be on sale during the event with proceeds benefiting the MCREA scholarship fund.

Tuesday—The hosts Lapsit for Little Ones from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m. The short storytime introduces babies and toddlers to simple stories, concept books, songs and nursery rhymes. For 0-24 month olds and a care giver.

Wednesday—The PJ Library and Morris County Connection will gather at from 11 a.m. to noon. PJ Library sends free Jewish content books to Jewish families with children 6 months to 5 1/2 years old in Essex, Morris, Sussex and northern Union counties.

Thursday—The County College of Morris in Randolph will hold an open house for adults in the Davidson Room of the Student Community Center from 5 to 7 p.m.

Friday—Get an early taste of St. Patrick's Day with "Celtic Fire" at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown at 8 p.m. The show will feature Irish step dancing and traditional folk music and songs under the artistic direction of Riverdance's Michael Londra. Tickets range from $32 to $52.

Saturday—The Morris County St. Patrick's Day Parade in Morristown starts at the corner of South and James streets at noon. The parade will continue down South Street to Atno Avenue.

Sunday—The  will host An American Gardener at Great Dixter at 10 a.m. Sid Jones, a retired chemist with more than 40 years of gardening experience, will discuss the beauty of the Great Dixter garden in East Sussex in the United Kingdom and it's affect on his gardening here in New Jersey.
