A Taste of 'Wines of the Americas' at Giralda Farms

State tournaments underway in basketball, hockey and wrestling.

State tournaments are underway this week with boys and girls basketball, ice hockey and one Madison High wrestler on a quest in Atlantic City.

Here's a look at what else is happening:

Monday—The boys and girls basketball teams will open the state tournament. The girls play at Hackettstown at 5 p.m., and the boys host Fort Lee at 7 p.m. The Madison Borough Council will also meet at the at 8 p.m.

Tuesday—The ice hockey team faces Summit in the opening round of the state tournament at Warinanco Ice Skating Center in Roselle at 6 p.m.

Wednesday—Sen. Frank Lautenberg's staff will be at the Morris County Library in Whippany from 10 a.m. to noon, answering questions about federal issues and agencies, including the IRS, immigration, veterans affairs, medicare and social security.

Thursday—The Madison Board of Education will hold a special meeting at at 7:30 p.m. This meeting replaces the originally scheduled special session on Tuesday.

Friday— heavyweight Mike Boardman will compete in the New Jersey State Wrestling Championship at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The event begins Friday evening and continues through the weekend. Patch will provide updates on Boardman's bouts.

Saturday—Wines of the Americas event, sponsored by Gary's Wine & Marketplace, will be held at  from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event benefits the New Philharmonic of New Jersey and includes wine from North and South America, food from Morristown's Hibiscus Restaurant and entertainment from jazz pianist Jerry Vezza. Tickets are $50 in advance and $55 at the door.

Sunday—The Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morristown hosts From the Ground Up, a cabin fever movie series, from 2 to 4 p.m. "Dirt: The Movie" is an 80-minute documentary featuring how soil provides food, shelter and a source of medicine and culture.  The film will be followed by "The Farmers of Gaho," a 21-minute documentary about the unique techniques of southern Ethiopia's farmers. Preregistration is required. Cost is $5.
