Harmonium Hosts the 2014 Choral Musicianship Workshop Series

Harmonium Choral Society hosts its annual Spring Choral Musicianship Workshop Series for singers, teachers, students and interested listeners. The workshops are designed to provide an excellent opportunity for participants of all ages to enjoy an afternoon expanding their skills in music theory, reading and singing. New Jersey-certified teachers can earn professional development credits by attending one or both of the workshops.

Judith Nicosia, Associate Professor at Rutgers University, will lead the first workshop on the topic "HYSIWYG" (How You Sing is What You Get). The workshop will take place 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, Grace Episcopal Church, 4 Madison Avenue at Kings Road, Madison, N.J. Judith will apply ideas and exercises from the solo vocal realm to choral singing. She will present methods for easier straight tone singing (using vibrato as needed), as well as other topics including resonance and breath management techniques. At Rutgers University Judith teaches voice, voice pedagogy and vocal literature classes. She is Secretary for ACDA Eastern Division and President-Elect for the New York Singing Teachers Association.

The second workshop "Introduction to Music Mind Games" will be presented by Elizabeth Cunha, a certified Music Mind Games teacher-trainer. Elizabeth will present an entertaining and exciting workshop for music lovers of all ages (PreK-Adult) filled with games to help students read music and understand music theory. The workshop will take place 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014, Grace Episcopal Church, 4 Madison Avenue at Kings Road, Madison, N.J. Elizabeth received her Bachelor of Music and Music Education/Violin from The Catholic University and attended The University of Maryland for her Masters in Music Education with an emphasis in Suzuki String Pedagogy. In addition to Music Mind Games and Suzuki training, Elizabeth also teaches General Music and Orchestra at the Stone Ridge Middle School in Bethesda, Md. Advance registration is recommended.

The workshops sell out quickly, and participants are strongly encouraged to register as soon as possible. The registration fee, which includes light refreshments, is $35 per workshop or $60 for both workshops. To register online, visit www.harmonium.org/paypal.shtml.
