The Madison High School ice skating Dodgers are riding a six-game unbeaten streak with a weekend 6 – 1 win over Morris Catholic. With senior goalie Grant Perry on sabbatical, the Dodgers called upon sophomore goalie Chris Rogers to protect the crease. In only his second varsity start, Rogers turned away 18 shots to notch his 2nd win of the season.
While the defense was riding Rogers like Seabiscuit, the offense wasted no time in jumping out to an early lead. Alex Williams scored his 17th goal of the season on assists from Ryan Willsea and Max Geraghty.
Later in the first period, Peter Andersson tickled the twine on an assist from Harrison Meyer and the Dodgers took a 2 – 0 lead into the 1st intermission. Morris Catholic came out flying in the 2nd period and closed the gap with an early 2nd period goal off the stick of Robert Ruina. Runia was stationed at his customary spot near the goal mouth and pushed the rebound just past the outstretched arm or Rogers.
The Crusader goal shifted momentum in favor of the visitors but the best momentum killer is a quick response and Matt Sweeney gave the Dodgers just what they needed. Sweeney, an accomplish drummer, used his hustle and stick skills to increase Madison's lead back to 2 goals. Ryan Hoover and Williams assisted on Sweeney’s 3rd goal of the season. Morris Catholic’s momentum was lost and Madison went on to score 3 unanswered goals. Andersson, the highest scoring goalie in the league, picked up an unassisted goal and Ryan Hoover scored on an assist from Williams.
Closing out the scoring was Sophomore Jake Nittolo who scored his 1st high school goal on an assist from Tommy Meehan.
