Townhouse Fire Sends Florham Park Woman to Hospital
Brandywyne Drive resident was evaluated for smoke inhalation, police said.
A husband and wife who live in a townhouse on Brandywyne Drive in Florham Park were displaced by a fire in their attic on Sunday, and the wife was taken to a hospital for evaluation after being exposed to smoke, police and fire officials said.
Florham Park Fire Chief Jonathan Young said firefighters evacuated the woman, who was bedridden, and extinguished the fire.
The woman was taken to Morristown Medical Center for evaluation, police said.
Young said the "relatively minor" fire started around a bathroom fan, and filled the attic with smoke. Firefighters pulled out part of the ceiling to access the blaze and put it out.
The fire was reported around 1:50 a.m. Sunday and a neighbor in a connected townhouse was evacuated until the fire was under control.
Police Sgt. Scott Bartell said the borough building department and fire inspector determined the townhouse is uninhabitable until damaged areas are repaired. The investigation is ongoing, he said.
Madison and Chatham Borough fire departments also responded to the scene, Young said.
