Cora Jiggetts on the steps of Hartley Dodge Memorial, on May 30, the day before her 106th birthday. Jiggetts was honored at a Borough Council meeting with roses, proclamations, and the singing of "Happy Birthday." Her birthday was Cora Jiggetts Day in Madison. "I just like to keep on living," she said.
Firefighters extinguish a blaze that gutted a multi-family home on Park Avenue on Nov. 17. A woman and her dog were rescued from the fire. Luis Pinzon, who lived on the first floor, said he smelled smoke and called 911. He and his wife were in the kitchen at the time. "Everything I had is gone," Pinzon said. "My papers, my keys, everything. I have nothing now."
Roxy licks Shannon Cadogan's face outside C&J's Deli. They were rescued by Madison firefighters from a burning multi-family home on Park Avenue on Nov. 17. A series of phone calls that Saturday morning, starting with a concerned call from Madison Police Officer James Cavezza to C&J's manager John Grant saying Grant's sister's house was on fire, ultimately led to firefighters knowing Cadogan was still inside. Firefighters James Blair and Troy Pehowic went in to get them. Cadogan's aunt, Dorleen Duque, is in the background.
A Madison firefighter examines the area around a chimney where a fire started in a Hunter Drive home on Nov. 27. The fire destroyed the home where a family had lived for 23 years. "We'll rebuild, we'll do it over, and everybody got out safe," homeowner Michelle Davis said.
