Massages, Yoga, Pilates and Childcare

The Chatham Club offers moms myriad ways to stay fit and relax.

A staple of the community for the avid athlete or the mom looking to get in shape, the 33-year-old has evolved into a state of the art fitness facility.

Say goodbye to tension with a massage at The Center for Relaxation and Healing. Work your core in a Yoga or Pilates class. Learn the ins and outs of karate, fencing, or squash.

"The Chatham Club is a little oasis for people," said Diane Sirna-Miller, a director at the club. "Moms can take classes that will challenge them: yoga will calm them and a spin class will help improve cardio."

The Chatham Club offers 100 classes each week, which range from spinning and zumba to pilates, yoga and boot camp. The 15 full-time trainers include ultra marathoners, body builders and Olympic contenders.

"Our staff is really talented," Sirna-Miller said. " And we are one of the only facilities in New Jersey that has a full pilates studio and a Kinesis-Power Plate Studio." The Pilates Studio is fully equipped with Gratz apparatus and all of the instructors are certified through Romana Kryzanowka, a direct protege of Joseph Pilates, The Physical Mind Institute, or by Power Pilates.

The Kinesis-Power Plate Studio involves three dimensional training that helps to improve strength, balance and flexibility and aids with mind-body awareness. Whole-body vibration training is also used to increase muscular strength.

Sirna-Miller reminds that a little rest and relaxation goes a long way to help moms reach their fitness goals.  "Relaxation is very important," she said. Worries of the day will melt away in the dry sauna, or moms can stretch and meditate in The Quiet Room.

For a spa-like experience, indulge in a massage at The Center For Relaxation and Healing. In addition to Swedish, deep tissue, sports massage and reflexology, the center offers a pregnancy massage for mothers-to-be. This massage increases circulation and soothes pregnancy aches and stress.

Chatham mom Melissa Thomas has been a member of The Chatham Club for over two years. "I came in for physical therapy and now it is like home," she said. "The trainers are wonderful and it is a very nurturing, motivating and inspirational environment. I feel like a whole different person since I started focusing on my fitness."

To top it all off, Thomas says, The Chatham Club offers wonderful childcare for her two little ones. "I love the nursery. The staff consists of moms and grandmothers who really nurture the kids. My son begs to me to come with me to 'big gym.' I feel confident leaving my children and that's important," she said.

The nursery is linked to the class schedule and accepts children 8 weeks to 10 years old. "Moms can come and take a class and leave their children with highly trained staff and have a couple hours' peace," Sirna-Miller said.

For the young athlete, The Chatham Club boasts one of the strongest Junior Squash programs in the country, led by Squash pro Geoff Mitchell. Last year, 20 of our 60 Junior members achieved a national ranking.  The program is open to children ages six and up.

Sirna-Miller encourages moms to drop by to find see what The Chatham Club has to offer: " Time for mom to focus on mom for a change!"
