The Madison High School wrestling team left its mark during the first day of the Morris County Tournament as the Dodgers saw four wrestlers advanced to today's quarterfinal round at Mount Olive.
Moving on were Patsy Davis at 119 pounds; Ed Carr (160), Nick Haboj (171) and Michael Boardman (285).
The kids who were supposed to win matches, did,” Madison head coach Steve Healey said. “Tom Tracy (215) had a tough match and I was hoping that [145-pounder Peter] Willis could avenge his loss from Monday night in Pequannock. But it’s good to see the kids who were supposed to win matches, win and let’s see what they can do [today]. Hopefully, they can continue winning.”
Madison also saw unseeded Max Gotsch win his opening-round match at 135 pounds, but he was eliminated from the tournament in the second round with a loss to second-seeded Luke Maroldi of Kinnelon.
Madison, with 34 points, was in decent position at 13th place in the overall standings.
Leading after Friday's matches was Delbarton (58.5 points), Jefferson (52), Montville (51), Boonton (50) and Pequannock (47).

Way to go Madison. I thought Patsy was the only one to face this challenge; it's nice to see that Ed, Nick, and Mike have also advanced. And you guys know that my son AJ Rooney has all the soldiers and children in Iraq rooting for you. It's that Madison Pride thing.
