Fireworks: 'Inappropriate' On Eve of 9/11 Anniversary
Timing not right for Rotary 'celebration,' according to reader.
Trying to find the right words to convey how sad I felt at the lack of respect by the organizers of the Rotary Festival for having a "celebration" on the eve of the most tragic event of this country. I can't believe how this wasn't factored in, as this event was planned.
This is a solemn evening of reflection for those who lost their lives. So many from Madison/Chatham and New Jersey. This is NOT a time of celebration! I live nearby off of Park Avenue and was watching two programs on 9/11 [Saturday evening]. All of the sudden I [heard] explosions, I was really scared at first, not knowing where they were coming from! When I realized it was fireworks from this event, I was very sad, it is so not appropriate on this particular evening. This is NOT the evening to celebrate, and hope the organizers will think about all the families touched by this tragedy.
