Christie Helped Self More Than Romney, Poll Says
Governor of New Jersey's convention speech was best for the man himself, according to FDU's numbers.
Did Gov. Chris Christie gave a bigger boost to himself than to presidential hopeful Mitt Romney with his speech at the Republican National Convention?
According to registered New Jersey voters who took place in a recent poll, yes, he did.
Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind reports that 58 percent of registered voters with knowledge of the speech believe he was more successful at selling himself to the American public than advocating the Romney/Ryan ticket. According to the poll's results, only 23 percent said the speech was more effective at helping to convince the electorate to support Romney.
“Governor Christie’s speech was seen or heard by a national audience, many of whom were being introduced to the governor for the first time," said Krista Jenkins, director of the poll and professor of political science at Fairleigh Dickinson University. "The tension between using this opportunity to establish his identity as a national figure versus advocating on behalf of Governor Romney came with the assignment. It’s notable that even among New Jersey Republicans, almost half–or 48 percent–evaluate his speech as more helpful to himself rather than the Republican ticket.”
New Jersey voters paid attention to the event, too. The poll said 71 percent of all registered voters in the state were aware of the speech, having watched it or heard it as it was delivered or in the days after.
Beyond the convention, however, Garden State residents continue to give the governor high marks for his job performance, according to the poll, with 51 percent of registered voters giving him their stamp of approval and 35 percent disapproving.
More than half of all respondents (52 percent) said the state is moving in the right direction, a number that continues to underscore the Republican governor's support in a state with more Democrats than Republicans.
“These numbers have basically remained the same across polls conducted throughout the year,” Jenkins said. “Policy battles have come and gone, new ones have emerged, and the state continues to struggle with an unemployment rate that’s greater than the national average. Yet, Governor Christie remains in good standing with a broad cross-section of registered voters.”
Fairleigh Dickinson University said the statewide poll of 901 registered voters was conducted by telephone with both landline and cell phones from Sept. 6 through Sept. 12 and has a margin of error of +/-3.3 percentage points.

I also thought Christie's speech was mostly an advertisement for himself. Turns out it was a smart move not to tie himself too closely to Romney.

I saw the speach and thought it was good, but in either case I would still vote for Christie because I think he is doing a good job and the state is moving in the right direction for a change but I will vote for Romney anyway because he will be better for the country than what we have with this idiot now. Check out some of the video's on you tube about him and see the real Odumbo, the ones he doesn't want people to see. If that doesn't change peoples minds then they are real idiots and traitors to this country and everything we once stood for and is hell bent on seeing this country destroyed. We were a God fearing nation once, now the dems have it that no body even wants to hear God's name anymore. That is a disgrace to our way of life.

Paul, you are of course free to vote however you wish, but I strongly advise against basing your decision on YouTube videos, regardless of the candidate.

Sorry, NJ4, no offense but I'm not going to click on your link, don't care if it's pro-Obama, anti-Obama, or pictures of Snooki's baby.

Of course for Christie to have a shot at the White House in 2016, Obama would have to win this year. That might be why Christie didn't even mention Romney's name until 2/3's of the way through his speech.

Wouldn't believe I'd ever agree with you Hookah, but you're right. If Christie wanted Romney to win he'd be ripping Hussein Ogabe an extra one from the podium instead of reciting a 30-minute advertisement of himself. He'd also be working triple hard on flipping New Jersey red, or at least putting it into play. The guy plans to run in 2016.

Max,
Get a clue. NJ won't be in play in November. There is nothing Christie could do to change this. If anythng, any efforts on his part would only make it tougher for Romney.

Max, I think it is time for you to go home now. I am sure someone bought you a ticket to America to get rid of you but they did us no favor. I don't care that you don't like Obama. I don't care that you make disgusting posts that is all on you but I do care that you use terms that are degrading to people. Grow up or go back home.

Christie proposes $10,000 fine for unauthorized release of NJ revenue data
I guess this headline says it all about the sort of POTUS Mr Christie would make? Wow.
Where do we find such voters to instal such dictators here in The United States of America, it is a truly amazing state of affairs where the facts and data of a states economic viability is subject to censorship to protect the political viability of a candidte.

Paul Brown, I pray God you never need the benefits that will be taken away if the liar and cheat Romney gets in the White House. You evidently don't need them now. If you knew anything about the Constitution, you would never vote for the Republicans who want to destroy it.

So Christie's record of 9.8 percent unemployment and increasing property taxes will carry him to the Whitehouse? I don't think so. The 2 percent cap is BS and moving Board of Ed Elections to November took away the rights of Voters to vote on their school budgets. Now Christie wants to cut Income taxes to benefit his buddies. He is a legend in his own mind.

I'd like to know the SPECIFICS of how we are better off than we were before Christie. In my life, my taxes, cost of living, value of my property, etc. have NOT gotten better. Please leave the name calling out, I would like to know how things are better in your lives and how it is directly related to Christie's policies.

Christie today Campaigning in Iowa for Steve King. This should answer the question but ........
Do NJ voters know how off the wall King is?
Christie is getting some serious blowback from his continued support of King. Christie is nothing if not loyal: King jumped to Christie's defense in 2009 when the then-candidate for New Jersey governor was called to a hearing on Capitol Hill about a contract he had awarded as U.S. Attorney.
But King is nothing if not controversial, as the video below from a Democratic Super PAC indicates.
King has questioned whether President Obama favors black people and was born in the United States (and whether Secretary of State Clinton's aide is part of the Muslim Brotherhood). King has called for an electrified border fence ("we do that with livestock all the time," he said). And King has incorrectly said it is legal in the United States for sexual predators to impregnate girls and force them to get abortions (while also saying, later, that he's never heard of a child getting pregnant from incest or statutory rape).

That Steve King sounds like a wise fellow. We need more like him in the Congress. I'll add my $100 to my Governor's efforts. Thanks for the tip!

Sorry to say THE BIG GUY rehashed much of his speech from his townhall meetings.
Quite self-serving and egocentric. I guess he cannot pass up an opportunity to pat himself on the back. Understand that he wishes to be Governor again but he should have showcased ROMNEY rather than himself. His fate is hanging on how he handles THE NEW JERSEY STATE PLAN .....a clone of Agenda 21.......Voters will make their decision in November by the 13th on his approval or total rejection for any position in New Jersey. We like the guy, but until his position is less occluded, our vote of approval hangs in abeyance.

Get rid of the Obama advertisements. If you have to use them just put them on another page. Just sick of looking at them!

That's free enterprise. They bought the ad and its location. Same would happen for Romney or any other candidate, no matter the party.
