Just as he did on that cold, rainy day, the Cat in the Hat transformed another day at school into an unforgettable celebration of reading Thursday for the students of Kings Road Elementary School. The New Jersey Education Association sponsored the visit from the beloved Dr. Seuss character, much to the excited delight of an auditorium full of grade-schoolers, while the original Cat in the Hat story was read aloud. The visit marked the beginning of the school's celebration of reading for Library Lovers Month in February which will culminate with Read Across America Week Feb. 27-Mar. 2. School staff has challenged students to read 1,500 books during that time. School media specialist Angie Donovan and principal Kathy Koop have promised to dress as Seuess characters Thing 1 and Thing 2 if the students reach their goal.
