5 Things to Know About Tuesday's Primaries

Madison GOP primary is contested with a councilman running for re-election and two write-in candidates declared.

New Jersey primary elections are Tuesday, when Democrats and Republicans will decide their parties' nominees for the general election in November.

With two Borough Council seats up for grabs in November, the Republican primary is contested in an unconventional sense—only one GOP candidate, an incumbent councilman, is on the ballot, while two other GOP candidates have declared they are seeking write-in votes.

The Democratic primary is uncontested, with two candidates on the ballot.

Before you head to the polls, here are some things you need to know.

When to vote: Polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Who can vote: Any voter registered with a party may vote in their party's primary. Unaffiliated voters may register with a party when they arrive at their polling and then vote in that party's primary. More information about the rules concerning registering and primary voting is available here.

Who's running: In the Democratic primary, Astri Baillie and Ben Wolkowitz are running unopposed.

For Republicans, incumbent Don Links is the only candidate on the ballot, while two other candidates, John Hoover and Carmen Pico, have declared they are running write-in campaigns.

Voters also may cast primary ballots for U.S. Senate candidates, Congressional candidates and Morris County Freeholder candidates.

Where can I get results: We'll be bringing you the results as soon as possible here on Madison Patch. Results also are posted on the Morris County Clerk's website. It could take longer than usual to tally the Madison votes if there are more write-in votes than normal.
