Mildred Stanford Creegan, 86, Garden Expert and Environmentalist

Mildred Stanford Creegan of Basking Ridge, formerly of Madison, died on Apr. 3. She was 86. Born and raised in Colonial Beach, VA, Creegan lived in Madison for 30 years before moving to Florida, Virginia and finally to Basking Ridge. She was an avid gardener who belonged to the American Herb Society and various garden clubs, and used her knowledge and talents to benefit the communities where she lived. Creegan was a charter member of the Madison Environmental Control Commission, was instrumental in the creation of an herb garden at Tempe Wick House in Jockey Hollow, and planned and helped maintain many public gardens elsewhere. She was also a past president of the Madison Thursday Morning Club. A memorial service will be held at noon this Friday, April 9, at the Burroughs, Kohr and Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison.
